  • Location: Manchester, New Smithfield Market, Openshaw
  • Working pattern: Monday to Saturday, 2:00 am to 10:00 am business operating hours; exact contracted hours will be confirmed in the employment contract.
  • Salary: £35,000–£45,000 per annum, depending on experience and suitability
  • English language requirement: B2 CEFR or equivalent

About the role

APSE LTD is seeking a Business and Related Research Professional to provide structured research capability supporting business decisions about customers, suppliers, products, competitors and future market expansion. The successful candidate will help turn reliable business information and market findings into practical information for management and relevant business functions.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Plan and undertake business and market research relevant to APSE LTD’s fresh-produce wholesale activities.
  • Research customer demand, purchasing behaviour, product trends and market developments affecting fresh fruit, vegetables and exotic produce.
  • Research supplier markets in the UK, Europe and potential wider international markets in support of the company’s development plans.
  • Collect, validate, organise and analyse business information from appropriate and reliable sources.
  • Undertake competitor and market research to identify commercial opportunities and potential risks.
  • Analyse seasonal demand, product categories and customer requirements to support purchasing and sales planning.
  • Research opportunities connected with the company’s planned addition of dry goods and drinks.
  • Prepare structured reports, summaries and presentations for the directors and relevant business functions.
  • Maintain research records, source information and databases so findings can be reviewed and updated.
  • Support evidence-based decision making by identifying trends, opportunities, risks and areas requiring further investigation.

Suitable candidate requirements

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Economics, Market Research, Social Sciences, Statistics or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in business research, market research, commercial research, intelligence or a comparable analytical role.
  • Strong research methodology, information-gathering and analytical skills.
  • Ability to evaluate sources critically and distinguish reliable information from unsupported material.
  • Good numerical and written-analysis skills and the ability to turn research findings into practical business information.
  • Strong report-writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness and interest in food, fresh produce, wholesale, supply chains or related trading markets.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and provide accurate research to support management decisions.
  • English language ability at B2 CEFR or equivalent.
